French Public Service Piano Concert Held on Campus
On Sunday afternoon, French pianist Geoffroy Couteau came to our campus to meet with our students and teachers from the Department of Arts. Mr. Geoffroy Couteau was awarded the first prize in the International Johannes Brahms competition in 2005. His first recording of Brahms’s final works earned him a number of honors. He has been invited to play in various festivals, like the “Piano aux Jacobins” Festival in Toulouse, the Chopin Festival in Bagatelle, the Chopin Festival in Nohant, the Lilles Piano Festival, the New Soloist Festival at the Serres d’Auteuil, the Epau Festival, the “French May” in Hong-Kong, etc. In 2002, he obtained the conservatory’s diploma of advanced formation with highest honors and with the special Daniel Magne award. He studied chamber music with Jean Mouillère and Christian Ivaldi. He has participated in a number of master classes from famous musicians such as Dmitri Bashkirov, Christoph Eschenbach, and Leon Fleisher. In the meeting, he communicated with our students and teachers on his experience of playing the piano and shared some play skills by presenting demonstration for all the audience. In the evening, about 450 students, teachers and piano amateurs watched his performance in our concert hall. His romantic and passionate performance was highly favored by the audiences and piano lovers. The event was organized by French L’esprit China Art Festival and Dongwu Arts Research & Cultural Exchange Center. It was also a good try for our school to participate in such an international activity. It benefits our students and their artistic horizon.
