“The Charm of Latin Music” Salon – An Auditory Carnival
With the audience being immersed in the rhythm of Mojito, a hit by Jay Chou last year, the salon “The Charm of Latin Music” slowly raised its curtain. Mr. Martinez Niebla Wilber, a famous Cuban musician in Suzhou, and his wife were invited by the International Exchange Division of SECEC to hold the salon on 26th May in the Concert Hall.
As a famous Cuban musician born in a musical family, he is famous for his Jazz music with piano and guitar. With a splendid career, he was named one of the representatives of Cuban music. He has also been guest of the local TV station as well as radio station for many times. It's our privilege to have Mr. Martinez on today's salon.
Based on a previous visit to our school, Mr. Martinez has prepared instruments and lectures for this exchange activity. The salon started with an interview, which was held by student host. During the interview Mr. Martinez interpreted Latin music through speaking as well as performing. He also invited students to come onto stage to play bongos in order to best illustrate the style of Latin music. Afterwards, he performed several pieces of Latin music with piano and guitar. His consummate skill of playing the guitar with backhand has amazed all of the teachers and students presented. Students from the school art troupe, piano club as well as guitar club have prepared piano, drum set, and guitar performances. Music of different styles made it a splendid “concert”. At the end of this salon, student dancer Wang Yaoyi from Department 1 has performed several pieces of dances together with Mr. Martinez. Her exquisite dancing technique pushed the salon up to the climax!
The salon also honorably gained support from government and local TV. The ending of salon is not the ending of communication, but a new start for better exchange!
