“The Old Man and the Sea” Themed English Speech Contest
On the afternoon of 23rd, December, 2020, “The Old Man and the Sea” Themed English Speech Contest (which is also the 2nd English Speech Contest of our school) was successfully held in our performance hall. Previously, we have organized a series of activities related to the book, including after-class self-reading, in-class book sharing, as well as postcard creative design competition, etc. It’s delightful to see students participated in these activities with great interest and passion.
The speech contest was divided into 2 parts: English Speech (3-5 minutes) and Impromptu Speech (1 minute). The selected 10 contestants brought us back to memory of the gentle and violent ocean while eulogizing Santiago’s spirit of never giving up.
As the contest approaching the end, prizes were awarded to the excellent speakers. The speech contest not only helped students to gain a deeper understanding of the old man’s spirit, but also enabled them to comprehend the beautiful language and profound meaning contained in the book. It also served as a stage for students to practice and achieve high.
