"Utilizing the Learning Environment as a Third Teacher"
On October 28th, the second public academic seminar of Exploring Quality Early Childhood Education was held as scheduled. Ms Joey Chan from Yew Chung College of Early Childhood Education presented a lecture on Utilizing the Learning Environment as a Third Teacher. Some teachers from our school watched the lecture.
The environment is an important teacher when it comes to Early Childhood Education. A highly versatile learning environment raises children’s learning interest and fulfills their need for free play. While addressing children’s cognitive development, Maria Montessori, the world’s most renowned educator in Early Childhood Education has once stated that, “Children’s brains absorb knowledge from the surrounding environment, and they develop based on what they’ve acquired from the outside world. Therefore, it’s a must that we should try our best to create a fun and inspiring learning environment for the good of our children.”
Being the main agents in facilitating children’s learning and development, teachers and parents should always give consideration to and evaluate if they have created a learning environment that would foster independent learning and holistic development for their child.
